Trust & Understanding

Working with athletes at the pointy end of world cycling is exciting and rewarding, however there is one thing I've learned, you need to have an athlete's trust and understanding in order to make improvements in performance on the bike.  Connecting with an athlete by educating them on both the pros and cons of suggested changes empowers them to make a confident decision with you.

It's not always about making wholesale changes to an athlete's bike and equipment set up, in fact this is often the catalyst for not wanting a bike fit. Think of bike fitting as opportunity optimise what you may have already had some success with and improve on it.  It's not uncommon to hear of athletes changing equipment and bike set up after a bike fitting and go back to what they are used to.  This raises an interesting question in my mind.  Is the athlete not confident in the changes, is there not the trust and understanding in the bike fitting experience that instills confidence in the fit outcome?

Don't be fooled by what your used to versus what is unfamiliar, allow time to adapt to change and reap the benefits of bike fitting.

Bike fitting is a partnership between athlete and fitter, both parties need to be on the same page for the bike fit to be a success.  Having a strong connection with the athletes I work with and seeing them go on to have success is what motivates me to continue doing what I do.
